Mana Kumari Ranjit
Mana Kumari is from Kavre district in Nepal. Now she lives with her sister in Bhaktapur.
In September 2062 her husband disappeared. A local man called her husband, and asked him to go to his sister's home. Then he disappeared. Mana do not know what happened.
One day the president form the local Newar society organization told her that the Maoists had killed her husband. The Maoists accused him for spying, and he was executed.
Today, her daughter is 28 years old, and every day she still goes to the house where her mother was told about her father. For a long time Mana did not tell her daughter about the disappearance of her father. One day Mana told a vegetable seller, who has a shop below their apartment about the incident, and one and a half month later there were an article in the local newspaper.
Her father in law started to drink and later died.
Mana started to visit the Maoists, because she wanted his body back. But they never told her anything. One day the Maoists had published the news in their paper saying that her husband had been killed. They killed him in the forest in Hetauda. That’s where they executed him.
Mana do not believe that her husband is dead. She has not seen his body. The society has also sigmatised her, and her husband’s sisters do not want to see her anymore. They never come anymore, not even for festivals.
The property is in the name of her husband., and she has no rights.
It is also difficult for her to support her children. The younger son is 19 years old. He looks after himself, and now works in Chitwan. Mana do not want any relief package, she just want educational support for her son.
Mana do not think that the Government of Nepal will ensure justice. They will only prolong, discuss and forget what has happened to the people.
Her husband did construction work, and she was a teacher. She had to quit her job, but her daughter is now a teacher in the same school.
It is difficult to tell the story. She has done it so many times. She feels misused. Mana feels that she has lost her identity. She is not a widow, and she cannot remarry. She cannot restart her life. She just want to stay healthy.
